What have Jamie Oliver’s Foundation, the Salvation Army and
many other schools and communities across the country all
invested in?
The Essential Youth Coaching
Skills Programme
A certificated training
programme for as many of your pupils, teachers and parents
that you can fit into your hall
“If celebrities and senior executives invest readily in
life coaching and personal development and its good enough
for them, then why is it not available to young people?”
That was the question Harry Singha, Chairman and Co founder
of the UK’s Youth Coaching Academy, asked himself after
successfully becoming accredited as one of the UK’s first
life and corporate coaches.
The answer was simple - lack of awareness and availability.
So it was decided by the founders of the Youth Coaching
Academy that one way to address these two fundamental
challenges was to train young people and those who work
with/care for them in coaching skills with the added value
of coaching specifically for young people.
Coaching Skills Programme for Schools
Are you a school…
-
•Frustrated with the
effectiveness of your peer mentoring
programmes?
-
•Whose peer mediator
programme is losing momentum?
-
•Whose Youth Council
could be even more effective and win you ‘gold
stars’ with Ofsted?
-
•Concerned about not
having an in house service to support those
young people on the brink of exclusion?
Or
-
•Do you not have a
peer support group in your school yet and want
one?
-
•Are you a school
that passionately believes in working with
your pupils to overcome the challenges of your
school?
Making them part of the solution rather than the problem
If you are a school that sees the above statement as more
than some fancy outcome and want to take some measurable
actions towards it, then this programme is for you.
The Essential Youth Coaching
Skills ( EYCS © ) programme
A seven-module leadership and personal development
programme for your pupils, teachers and parents! Created by
the leaders and pioneers of Youth Coaching.
What does the programme cover?
Session One
The principals of accelerated learning. How we learn.
Dramatically improve your performance in any subject.
Session Two
State management. Learn what determines our behaviour and
feelings and better still, have some simple yet effective
strategies to manage this for yourself and support others
to do likewise.
Session Three
Listening & Questioning. Covering how not to do it and
some techniques to dramatically improve your levels of
listening and questioning. Become aware of some powerful
questioning techniques used by accredited life coaches to
support clients to move towards their goals.
Session Four
Rapport. Learn the most advanced communication skills.
Engage with those who are ‘hard to engage with’. Find out
how to totally connect with others to enable them to
understand you and (more importantly) you them.
Session Five
Beliefs, Values and Identity - Find out why people make the
decisions they do and do what they do (including you).
Learn why some things feel really difficult to do and
others effortless. Learn the essentials of self-motivation
and how to motivate others.
Session Six
Coaching – Learn what this really is and how does it differ
from mentoring, counselling and teaching. Learn how to use
a coaching model to support anyone to;
-
1.Identify a
goal/outcome,
-
2.Become clear about
where they are now in relation to that
goal/outcome
-
3.Create a workable
action plan to move towards the
goal/outcome
Session Seven
Review and celebration - Putting it all together. An
opportunity to practice the skills even further and instil
a greater level of competence and confidence in supporting
self and others to realise their aspirations and overcome
challenges.
Then celebrate with the awards of certificates and sharing
how individuals will use the learning to support themselves
and their school/communities
How is the programme delivered?
As it is a modular programme it may be delivered in many
permutations. The following are the most common:
Option 1
Two full days training within your school
or at an agreed venue.
Option 2
Four half-day (three hour) training days
scheduled at dates to suit you.
Option 3
Seven 1.5-hour workshops, after school,
delivered over a period to suit you.
Option 3 has demonstrated to be by
far the most effective for the following
reasons:
-
•It is spread over a
longer period therefore skills learnt may be
applied and measured.
-
•It is out of school
hours and does not require pupils to miss any
lessons
-
•Requires parental
consent and therefore the school gains
critical parental support and awareness of
their peer support programmes. This awareness
is critical when asking parents to support
future peer support programmes
financially.
-
•Enables a larger
representation of the school community to
attend.
Whichever option is chosen, the Academy’s assigned youth
coach will address every pupil via, short five minute slots
at assemblies. Ensuring they know what the programme is
about and the benefits to them. This process attracts
around 100 young people as opposed to only sending out a
letter to the young people and getting them to take it home
for consent.
Who are the Youth Coaching Academy?
The only not for profit coaching body focusing solely on
the Youth Sector, created following the demand for coaches
who wish to work effectively with youth.
The Youth Coaching Academy is now widely recognised as the
leading authority on Youth Coaching. The Academy is the
home of many leaders in the personal development field,
youth work, and youth legislation from all over the world,
who provide support and guidance on quality standards for
youth coaches, commissioners of youth coaching, parents and
young people.
The Academy has the largest pool of accredited youth
coaches and the only pool of accredited youth peer coaches
(young people aged 13-17).
With Harry Singha, the leading authority on Youth Coaching
as our Chairman, Jamie Oliver as our patron and an enviable
pool of supporters, the Academy continues to inspire more
of the youth population to be the best they can be and to
support their peers to shine too.
Here’s what others have said about the programme.
“We had over ninety pupils sign up for this programme and
to see the pupils
engage week after week and apply the skills was amazing.”
Clarence Venson,
Learning Mentor, Eastlea
Community School
“Thanks Harry, not sure what you did on the course, the
guys have come back with so much enthusiasm
and are committed even more to supporting the other
graduates, amazing!”
Tony Elvin,
Training and development Manager,
Jamie Oliver’s 15
Foundation
“We embarked on an adventurous programme to empower our
services users to be able to deliver personal development
programmes to other service users. The first part of this
was to have all of our staff trained with the essential
coaching skills programme. I am pleased to say the feedback
has been tremendous. Something that is effective, we can
use with confidence and builds on our current strengths and
values.”
Major Paul Kingscott,
Divisional Director,
Salvation Army
“At first I was not sure what the course was about and from
the first session I learnt so much that I could use in my
life. So I attended every session. This course taught me
skills to help me be how I want to be.
I still use these skills every day.”
Avneet Kaur,
Year 9 Pupil, Little Ilford
School
